Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
Jan. 13, 2021
that he would. David pointed out that Wayfinding was not well represented by the KPIs.
Nathan suggested that there could be other KPIs staff recognizes in-house. He noted
that collecting user satisfaction data about the Wayfinding signage program was always
one of the goals of the program and could be used as a KPI. Laura asked whether
OSAB would be asked to contribute to generating these numbers, and board members
had been asked in the past. Nathan answered that staff would be responsible for them
all. Ember added that board members would continue to be responsible for creating the
acquisition/trails evaluation list. Helen asked about whether the KPIs made distinctions
between Parks and Open Space, particularly about the about maintenance cost per
acreage KPI. Nathan noted that these numbers are pretty high-level, and not broken
down too finely. Ember added that employees' time is attributed to projects, so some of
that budgeting distinction is traceable.
E. Helen asked staff if there has been any recent progress on Wayfinding. Nathan said
that the signage RFP hadn't gone forward yet. Nathan and Ember will be shortly
meeting to establish a staff work plan for 2021.
F. Nathan thought that the Open Space staff presentation to the non -motorized grant
program went well yesterday. The city is asking for funding to resurface the soft -surface
trails at Davidson Mesa. At the presentation staff learned about some other, federal
funding that might available, too. Jessamine volunteered that she has some expertise
with this process with the LWCF and might be able to contribute.
G. David was interested in the 5k and 10k routes mentioned in the packet Staff
Updates. Ember said the routes will be looped through parks and open space with an
emphasis on safe crossings, and color coded by route length. In the future, Ember sees
it as a pamphlet for new citizens to find new running and walking routes, including
surface type and parking information. Staff is starting with three routes: a 1-mile route at
Hecla Lake, a 5k at Davidson Mesa, and a 1 OK via North and the Recreation Center.
Charles commented that he'd be interested in contributing to this effort. David
suggested giving the future pamphlet to Runners Roost and Louisville Cyclery. Debbie
asked if the wayfinding trails colors would correspond to the running route colors.
Ember answered that they would be on the same trails, but the colors would not be the
same as the trail colors since the color theme would be based on difficulty of route.
H. Jessamine asked about the status of the tree forts on North Open Space. Ember
said staff has dismantled forts for about 10 hours. There will be more work done in
February. Staff has not had much push back from citizens during the dismantling.
6. Board Updates
none
7. Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda
none
8. Introduction of OSAB Members
A. New Board Member: Anneliese Steel introduced herself. She works in business and
politics in the Colorado state capital. She has worked in the outdoor recreation industry,
with Outward Bound, and with the Boulder climbing community. She lives adjacent to
Dutch Creek.
0
