Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
January 25, 2021
Page 2of3
Election of RAB Vice -President — Michele Van Pelt was elected unanimously.
Nomination: Kutscher
Second:
Election of RAB Secretary — Mary O'Brien was elected unanimously.
Nomination: Haines
Second:
Public Comments — None
Staff Updates
Recreation and Senior Center Updates
Kathy Martin and Nathan Mosely commented on the Recreation and Senior
Center Dashboard. Mosely noted that Martin and her team had done a
phenomenal job, given the facility was closed for 109 days due to Covid-19, and
was limited to 10-25% capacity for much of the rest of the time. Even though
there was a 64% decrease in visits, expenses were well -managed, with
emphasis placed on safety and service. Although there was a net operating
deficit of 1.3 million dollars, after transfers -in there was a $223,000 net fund
balance to assist with future purchases and operations. As Covid-19 will still
cause challenges going forward, budgeting will be flexible and managed
conservatively.
Kathy Martin remained optimistic, highlighting positive results such as the
over 100 meals per day served at the Senior Center curbside pickup site and the
fact that numbers from the Boulder County Health Department appear to be
improving.
Golf Course Update
Nathan Mosely and David Baril reported on what they considered to be a
blockbuster year for the golf course, given the situation, which included more
than 30 days lost to Covid-19.
Marketing Update
Brett Nickerson suggested that an incentive plan similar to that of the Golf
Course be implemented to draw users back to the Recreation and Senior Center.
Ginger Cross agreed and has already been thinking along those lines. She also
reported on plans to have a warm opening for the new Grill at Coal Creek and
activities that will stress our wonderful local amenities, including the Recreation
and Senior Center, our parks and open spaces.
