3 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Alps Ownership, 1936-1945 <br /> <br />In 1936, Carrie Carveth sold 637 Lincoln to another widow, Elizabeth Alps (1890-1959), who was <br />an English teacher in the Louisville Public Schools. Elizabeth and her husband, George, and <br />daughter, Evelyn, came to Louisville in about 1922. George was the superintendent of Louisville <br />Schools (he and Elizabeth had originally met when he was the principal and she was a teacher in <br />Ault, Colorado). George Alps died in 1930. “Mrs. Alps” was known to take in other Louisville <br />teachers as boarders during the years that she lived in the house. <br /> <br />The photo below shows Elizabeth Alps in the yard outside 637 Lincoln, probably in the late <br />1930s. Her daughter, Evelyn (1917-2008), is believed to have also lived in the house at 637 <br />Lincoln from 1936 until her marriage in 1939. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
