HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE ANALYSIS AND CRITERIA FOR LISTING AS LOCAL <br />LANDMARK: <br />In order to receive a City landmark designation, landmarks must be at least 50 years old and <br />meet one or more of the criteria for architectural, social or geographic/environmental <br />significance as described in Louisville Municipal Code (LMC) Section 15.36.050(A). <br />Staff finds that this application complies with the above criterion by the following: <br />CRITERIA <br />FINDINGS <br />Landmarks must be at <br />The First Baptist Church at 701 Grant Avenue was constructed <br />least 50 years old <br />circa 1901. <br />Landmarks must meet <br />Architectural Significance - Exemplifies specific elements <br />one or more of the criteria <br />of an architectural style or period. <br />for architectural, social or <br />geographic%nvironmental <br />The church structure is an early 20th century wood frame <br />significance <br />vernacular building. It is a unique building type for Old <br />Town. The church structure has maintained much of its <br />original form and includes historic windows with <br />decorative arched patterns, four over four. The <br />structure was converted to residential use in 1971. This <br />house is associated with the historic development of <br />Louisville and the Pleasant Hill subdivision. <br />• The City's residential historic context notes this property <br />as a notable non-residential structure in the Pleasant Hill <br />subdivision. <br />• The property is on a corner lot facing Pine Street and <br />Grant Avenue, and the facades facing these streets <br />maintain much of the original form of the historic building <br />and retains significant architectural integrity when <br />viewed from the street. <br />Staff finds the style and integrity of the structure <br />meets the criteria for architectural significance. <br />Social Significance - Exemplifies cultural, political, economic or <br />social heritage of the community. <br />• The property served as the Baptist church for the <br />community from 1901 to 1971 contributing to the cultural <br />and social heritage of Louisville during this time. <br />• With the history of this property serving a Baptist <br />congregation specifically, this church is also an important <br />representation of Louisville's cultural diversity of even <br />some of its earliest settlers. <br />Staff finds the church is associated with the cultural <br />and social heritage of the community. <br />
