Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
February 11, 2009
4. Tom said:
What can we do about current state of the area?
What are the impacts to the rest of Davidson Mesa?
What are options for changing designation/control?
Should it be relocated?
5.Tom suggested that by changing the area to the "other" category would allow
the current area to not violate the description (2/3 agreement of council)
Or we could try to redesignate as parkland which requires majority vote from
citizens of Louisville
6. Tom suggested that potential impact to the rest of the Mesa is an important
consideration for what to do
7. Truman suggested that signage and land management should be first option
8. Justin said that he believes that sacrificing the land in the off-leash area is
worth the potential negative impact to the rest of Davidson Mesa. He also
suggested the idea of a fee box.
9. Tom said he likes the idea of a fee box.
10. Joe indicated that money would go into the General Fund. He said that City
of Louisville averages $7500 annually on registered pet. Also suggested a
surcharge for dog park & off leash areas.
11. Spencer suggested that we gather information from staff regarding costs.
12. Tom proposed that we establish a Dog Park subcommittee that would use
Survey Monkey to gather user information. Justin, Truman, and Spencer agreed
to serve on the subcommittee.
13. Linda asked if there is any other kind of surface that could work
14. Tom asked for a staff evaluation by May for Davidson Mesa and for long-term
options for restoration
15. Linda suggested that we ask if the users are happy with the existing
conditions
16. Justin said he thinks that users would be willing to contribute funds
17. Justin suggested that we talk about solar panels & wind turbines in our
upcoming meetings
