Open Space Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />March 11, 2009 <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />advocate) renaming Tamarisk in his honor being listed as an option for the <br />committee to consider. <br />Coyote Symposium Update <br />They affirmed that coyote management policy is up to local governments. There <br />was good educational information provided, which Ember summarized for the <br />Board. They went over all reported Coyote attacks in Colorado - a total of only <br />8. Ember reviewed some reported coyote encounters in Louisville. Passive <br />education (reporting form, sandwich boards, posters, pamphlets, post cards, <br />public service announcements) and active education (presentations) options <br />were discussed. Terminology was discussed to try to standardize definitions. <br />Step 2 Hazing options were discussed (yelling, throwing sticks and stones, water <br />guns, paintballs). Step 3 Lethal Control options were discussed (live trapping, <br />snares). The DOW has concluded that populations have not changed <br />significantly. <br />Develop a Process for Renaming Tamarisk Open Space <br />Properties are typically named after the person selling the property to the <br />city. In order to rename a property, OSAB would need to submit the proposed <br />process to city council to get permission to proceed. The process needs to <br />include public involvement. Tom proposed preparing the recommendation to <br />Council in our May meeting. Linda suggested soliciting ideas from school <br />children. Tom summarized possible toponymy categories as: Historical, <br />Memorial, Geographical, Political expediency, Large financial donor, Feelings <br />open space provides. <br />Off-Leash Management Options <br />Survey Monkey survey draft was reviewed. Several suggestions on the <br />survey were made, including revising Question 4 to determine how people get to <br />DM. Survey collection ideas included paper surveys, having volunteers with <br />clipboards soliciting participation, handing people directions to access the online <br />survey, and a link from the city website. The board wanted to begin surveys <br />before the next meeting. <br />Photos of other dog parks were reviewed. <br />The need for an underpass came up in relation to parking issues. Justin <br />cautioned that the underpass should be considered as a separate issue since it <br />has significant merit independent of the off-leash area issues. <br />Ember reviewed fence pricing for segregating areas of the off-leash area. <br />Website Design & Component Development <br />Discussion to provide staff with ideas and direction for in-house website <br />development. Tom had several ideas and a contact who teaches web design. <br />There may be opportunities to get help from the class. A photo contest was a <br />
