MONROE FENCE COMPANY
11377 Billings Avenue
Lafayette, CO 80026
Ph: 444-2556
FENCE FACTS:
The material used for wood fencing is untreated Western Red
Cedar. The life expectancy for this species of cedar is fifteen
to twenty years.
The standard posts are 4X4's. They are set a minimum of two
feet in concrete in an eight inch diameter hole. The spacing is
determined by the height of the fence and the city regulations.
We call for buried utility cables to be located before digging.
The standard rails are rough 2X4's. We use three rails for five
and six foot fences, and two rails for a four foot fence. The
City of Boulder allows seven foot fences and they are installed
using four rails. All rails are nailed with sixteen penny ring
shank galvanized nails.
The pickets are a #1 Premium grade (or select, as graded by the
West Coast Lumber Bureau standard grading rules). The grading
rules do not allow holes or rot or bark, or knots that are loose
which will fall out and become holes: A certain amount of
shrinkage will occur in fence pickets, depending on the age,
moisture content and width of the board. (Shrinkage is not
addressed in grading rules as it does not affect the structural
integrity of a fence.) Pickets are installed using six penny
ring shank galvanized nails. Galvanized nails help reduce
streaking from the nails onto the boards.
Cedar fencing can be treated or stained or painted with a
variety of products found locally. However, no treatment is
required, as cedar has natural oils which help preserve it.
Western Red Cedar is one of the most decay resistant species in
America. When left untreated, it will weather naturally,
darkening or graying over time.
Monroe Fence is owned and operated by Darrell and Sharon Monroe.
We are licensed and insured, and have been installing fences for
eighteen years. Darrell is personally in charge of and works on
all of the fences that we install. We are quality and customer
service oriented. We welcome your comments and questions and
look forward to installing your fence. References are available
upon request.
