Planning Commission
Meeting Minutes
March 13, 2008

Staff reviewed the Special Review Use Criteria (Louisville Municipal Code 17.40.100.A) and
stated all five criteria have been met.

Staff recommended approval for the special review use for Bridge School at 833 West South
Boulder Road, with the following conditions:
1) The special review use is for Bridge School only. Any change in school ownership would
require an amendment of the special review use before Planning Commission and City
Council.
2) The maximum square footage permitted with this use is 20,000 SF, with 100 students and
15 full time Staff members. Any change in these totals will result in an amendment to this
special review use.
3) According to Section 17.16.265 there will need to be an area created for refuse and
recycling materials for the proposed school use. The area will need to be enclosed and
screened from the view of the public.

Commission Questions:
Loo asked for a clarification of the wall sign.

McCartney stated it would be required to meet the standards established in the municipal code
and the applicant would need to apply for a building permit for the sign.

Pritchard asked about Science Labs and what permits would be required.

McCartney stated they would require permitting and approval through the Building Safety
Division.

Pritchard, Russell and Tengler had questions regarding bike racks, building ownership and
sports.

Staff recommended those items be discussed with the applicant.

Applicant Presentation:
Richard Weeks, representing Bridge School, reviewed the schools history and the need for the
relocation. He then addressed the questions from Pritchard, Russell and Tengler:
. Sports include - girls volleyball, basketball, with possible addition of others.
. Bike racks were identified on the site plan.
. The building is currently under contract with Gaiam. The school is looking forward to
that partnership.
. The school is aware the science lab will require special venting and permits that they
will obtain.

Commission Questions of Applicant:
Lipton inquired about food service.

Weeks stated the majority of the students bring their lunch and the upper grades are allowed to
leave campus.

Loo asked if the school was going to continue its working relationship with other organizations
in order to offer special summer programs.

Weeks stated they would continue the special programs for the summer.

Members of the Public:
None heard.
