Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
January 26, 2009
Members asked if it makes sense to include any sites outside of Old Town such
as farm buildings, silos, etc.
Muth noted that the HPF money must be spent in the designated Old Town area,
but added that perhaps the SHF monies could be used for the few buildings
outside of the area. She will look into it further.
Grant Program
Members briefly reviewed the draft grant application. They suggested that the
application be changed to require landmarking to receive the grant funds.
Subcommittee Reports
• Community Outreach
Whiteman stated that he had no report.
Landmark Plaque Design
Muth presented the two plaque designs. Members choose the final
plaque. Muth will now get prices for the plaques and bring that information
back to the HPC.
• Incentives
Members agreed this is currently covered in the HPF program.
Mine Marker Program
Muth reported that she, Koertje, and Whiteman had met to discuss how to
proceed with the design assistance from UCD. The current plan would be
to have one sign designed that could then be adapted for each additional
mine. The first sign would be for the Acme Mine or the Fireside Mine.
Muth will bring additional information to a later meeting.
Green Build Pamphlet
Members liked the pamphlet as presented. Muth will get some additional
citations from Lewis before finalizing the material.
Why Preserve Pamphlet
Members made some suggested changes to the draft as presented. Muth
will make those changes before finalizing the pamphlet.
Update on Demolition Requests - 1308 Grant Avenue
Lewis reported on the review of 1308 Grant Avenue. She noted that the review
committee found the site would not likely qualify for landmarking and the permit
had been released.
Discussion/Comments on Planning Department Referrals
None.
Updates
• 1800 Plaza Drive Hecla Casino Building -stay expires 4/19/09
Lewis reported that she had been in contact with the owner and plans to
tour the site and review his plans for the site soon. She noted it is unlikely
