Community Update

Summer 2008

A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR:
LOUISVILLE ROCKS

Summer is rapidly approaching and the vibrancy of our community becomes
even more apparent. We look forward to many outdoor events with the Taste
of Louisville, Street Faire, and the July 4th Celebration. All culminating with our
year there is also a Farmer's Market, which takes place
Saturdays from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM in Historic Downtown. I am not forgetting the
myriad of softball and baseball tournaments, soccer games, golf tournaments, bocci
games, bicycling races, and certainly the running events available for many of us.
onset of summer means picnics, community celebrations, reunions, gradua-
tions, neighborhood gatherings, landscaping, and even some time for our individual
pursuits. What could be more exhilarating? We are such an active community and
I want us to become a more active community. We talk about livability and healthy
lifestyles, but all of us, starting with yours truly, need to be more mindful. Sum-
mer is a great time to embark on new activities and perhaps resume some neglected
activities. Walking is a wonderful exercise and allows us to see our neighbors, enjoy
the beautiful scenery of Louisville, and appreciate our many trails and open space.
Can you imagine a better morning or evening than the breathtaking backdrop of the
Flatirons as you navigate or meander on Davidson Mesa?

Continued on 3

The City has created a new "Life in Louisville" photography competi-
I tion. Digital or scanned entries gathered over the previous year that
capture the essence of "Life in Louisville" will be showcased and added to
a collection documenting Louisville, its residents, visitors, events, and all
around lifestyle.
Entries may appear in City of Louisville publications and in various places
such as the Public Library, the Historical Museum, the Recreation & Senior
Center, the Arts Center, in print, on TV, and on the Internet.
This competition aims to help preserve images and reminders of Louisville
idea
is will be an invaluable historical asset to this and future generations.
Photos will be judged in three categories: student, amatuer, and profes-
sional. Winners will be recognized by the City Council and the winning photos
on publ and on web
Visit the City site at www.ci.louisville.co.us for entry forms and ad-
ditional information. The entry deadline is July 11, 2008, by 4:30 PM.
