Economic Vitality Committee
Meeting Minutes
April 16, 2021
Director Pierce continued and talked about the importance of updating Council
and showing them what has been happening. In the plan matrix, she pointed
out items #2-3 (Conduct a Business Satisfaction Survey every other year to
monitor changes and new ideas in the business community) and #2-6 (Host
annual Business Forum to gather all stakeholders, review City priorities, and
gather feedback) and asked if there were any opinions or comments from the
group as they require review of responsibility and their target start.
Chair Dickinson mentioned that we've done some surveys due COVID-19 and
suggested delaying the Business Satisfaction Survey to 2022. Mayor Tem
Maloney and Councilmember Leh agreed.
Director Pierce then discussed #2-6 and that a forum could be helpful to get
input and feedback and is looking to see if EVC would like to be involved, and if
so, how. Councilmember Leh agreed that it is important to get feedback and
that EVC should definitely be involved, especially that BRaD was so involved
before.
Mayor Tem Maloney agreed that it is an important thing to do, but also that an
in -person aspect is important to an event like this. He continued that doing it
over Zoom could be hard, and so perhaps waiting until 2022 for this event as
well would be a good idea. Chair Dickinson agreed that it is very important and
that maybe doing an in -person event but later this year could be feasible.
Director Pierce said that perhaps doing a topic generating discussion out to the
community to help get feedback would be a good idea. Mayor Tem Maloney
asked what would some potential ideas or topics. Director Pierce said it could
be as specific as topics from the Strategic Plan or something broader.
Councilmember Leh mentioned that this could be decided at a later date as we
get more clarity about Level Clear as well as EVC itself.
Director Pierce asked if the group had a preferred way to gather info and
present to Council. Chair Dickinson mentioned that he liked the way the
scorecard with the target dates was presented and that it is visual. Mayor Tem
Maloney agreed that he liked the spreadsheet and the visual components.
Councilmember Leh agreed. Director Pierce said that some changes could be
made and said she would like to bring something to Council reporting on Q2
2021
VIII. Discussion- Strategic Plan Item #1-1: Develop Shortlist of Priority
Businesses to Guide Recruitment Efforts: Director Pierce briefly talked
existing recruitment efforts as well as importance of developing updated
marketing materials, which is underway. She sought EVC feedback on
businesses or business types that they feel should receive focus.
Agenda Packet P. 4
