0 <br />GRAVES <br />CIVIC SOLUTIONS <br />0 <br />0 <br />Dia <br />EON SULTING <br />Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Definitions: Building Shared Language <br />Diversity: The presence of differences that may include national origin, race, ethnicity, <br />languages, cultures, age, religion, class, gender, sexual orientation, disability. Often applied to <br />populations that have been -and remain- underrepresented among practitioners in the field and <br />marginalized in the broader society. <br />Equity: Is promoting justice, impartiality, and fairness within the procedures, processes, and <br />distribution of resources by institutions or systems. Tackling equity issues requires an <br />understanding of root causes of outcome disparities within our society. <br />Inclusion: Is an outcome to ensure those that are diverse feel and/or are welcomed. Inclusion <br />outcomes are met when you, your institution, and your program are truly inviting to all. To the <br />degree to which diverse individuals are able to participate fully in the decision -making <br />processes and development opportunities within an organization or group. <br />Antiracism: The process of actively identifying and opposing racism. Antiracism is about <br />understanding that to create change for racial equity, people have to take an active stance to <br />combat racism. The goal is to challenge racism and actively change the policies, behaviors, and <br />beliefs that perpetuate racist ideas and actions. <br />Levels of Racism: <br />• Personal Racism: The racism that lies within an individual and includes people's private <br />beliefs and biases about race and racism, influenced by our culture. EX: Prejudice against <br />other races, internalized privilege, white entitlement mindset, etc. <br />• Interpersonal Racism: The bias that occurs when individuals interact with others and <br />their personal racial beliefs affect their public interactions. EX: Calling BIPOC individuals <br />racial slurs, racially based violence, etc. <br />• Institutional Racism: The racism that occurs within institutions and systems of power. <br />Refers to the unfair policies and discriminatory practices of particular institutions <br />(school, workplaces, etc.) that routinely produce racially inequitable outcomes for <br />
