Applicant's Presentation - Larry Thompson, owner, Stairs, Inc. I really have no presentation
other than the fact I have submitted this for an addition to alleviate some of the problems I have
had with outside storage. At present there are 35 people working at this location including my
wife and I. We will probably be cutting back by the beginning of the year to around 30
employees. I don't feel that it is necessary at this time to have a curb cut as access for the parking
on the adjacent lot, however, I do own the property and if, at a future date, our employment
warrants it, I would be willing to expand the parking then. The addition is strictly for lumber
storage and will not effect our employment numbers.
Public Comment with Regard to the Application - There were none.
P/C Questions to Applicant
Q. Will employees be working out of this area, or will there be any access to and from this
area?
A. The only access will be by an 18 X 12 foot dock loading door for in and out storage.
Q. So the intent is to use it for raw lumber?
A. Yes.
Q. Are all your employees there at one time?
A. At this time yes. I have tried two shifts and that does not work for us.
Q. What are the hours?
A. 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We work four nines and a half day Friday.
Q. Would this storage area go out as far as the horse shoe pit, or will it go further?
A. It would go 30 feet out to the west leaving another 20 feet to the property line.
Applicant's Summary - The Applicant did not have a summary.
Staff Summary and Recommendation - Staff recommends approval of the of the Final PUD
Development Plan, with Resolution #45, Series 1994. As indicated, with the exception of
Conditions #2 and #5, the other conditions have been addressed on the revised plan which was
submitted.
Public Hearing Closed Commission Discussion/Motion
Commissioner VanNostrand - I think this is a benefit for Stairs Incorporated as well as a benefit
for us to have the material which is currently stored outside stored inside.
Commissioner Boulet - I agree with the modifications that staff is requesting. I think this is a
suitable plan. I am also encouraged that businesses which are located in the Tech Center are
choosing to stay and expand rather than relocate.
Commissioner McAvinew - I, too, concur with the conditions which remain, numbers two and
five. Other than that, I am in favor of this.
9
