Staff
anticipates that the code update will also include requirements for EV
charging installation and EV ready construction, solar ready construction,
and building system electrification ready construction for all new
residential and commercial development. The proposed code update is
scheduled for City Council review this September.
• The second phase includes a study of other potential building code
measures, such as requirements for all -building electrification, a green
building code rating system (e.g. National Green Building Council LEED
rating system or custom point system), solar PV installation requirements,
carbon offsets, etc.
Earlier this year, the City had also participated in multi -jurisdictional application to
the DOLA Energy Impact Assistance Grant program, but was unsuccessful in the
request. The grant request was to hire consultants to assist with a regional effort
to adopt the 2021 IECC, adopt a net zero implementation plan, and develop a
roadmap for 100% renewable electricity for each community.
