Parks and Public Landscaping Advisory Board <br />Meeting Minutes <br />Thursday June 3, 2021 <br />Virtual Meeting <br />7 PM <br />1. Roll Call: PPLAB members present: Laurie Harford, Ellen Toon and Steve Knapp. City staff <br />members present: Nathan Mosley, Director of Parks, Recreation and Open Space, Dean Johnson, <br />Parks Superintendent, Steve Roles, Senior Natural Resource Specialist <br />2. Approval of Agenda: Agenda approved <br />3. Approval of Minutes: Minutes approved <br />4. Staff Updates <br />a. About 3 years ago a resident was concerned about a cottonwood Tree at Hammer Run <br />park. Tree was hanging over the house and has now been determined to be a risk. City <br />Forrester is going to begin the removal process. <br />b. Seasonal Staff is low; department is in the process of replacing two full time employees. <br />c. Weather has been very wet, making mowing problematic. Mowing plan has not <br />changed; wet conditions are moving timelines for mowing. <br />d. A few calls have been received for dandelions. <br />e. Park rentals are very high; department is excited for the summer and getting back to <br />normal. Planning in place for Thursday concerts, Street Faire, etc. <br />f. Approval to move forward with a landscape irrigation project in the Sports Complex, <br />Cemetery, etc. <br />g. Nathan's updates: Everyone is doing so much with few employees and the wet weather; <br />big thank you to everyone's hard work and community support. <br />h. Public meetings are still via Zoom; however, City Council will review return to in -person <br />during July meeting. <br />i. Cottonwood Park Playground Replacement: finalizing requests for proposals. Replacing <br />all playground equipment at Cottonwood Park. Stay tuned for public engagement on <br />equipment, design, etc. <br />j. Commercial entity use of parks is under review case by case since Citizen rentals are so <br />high. <br />k. Dean: Bridge House partnership is going very well. Leader and three employees are <br />working with the town horticulturists to plant seasonal flowers. <br />5. Board Updates <br />a. Ellen was contacted by a new member of OSAB (Open Space Advisory Board) in regard <br />to a joint meeting with PPLAB. Nathan has offered to be the liaison and set up a <br />meeting. <br />b. Nathan brought up the concept of Nature Play and requests for nature play. Dog off - <br />leash and Dog Park discussion would also be helpful. Looking forward to joint input <br />between OSAB and PPLAB. <br />Ir <br />
