Public Comment on Items Not on the Agenda
PPLAB Team,
Over the course of the last two weeks we started having conversations with Parks, Recreation,
and Open Space leadership related to our organization's use of Community Park.
Our organization is Sloyd Experience, a Louisville founded and based 501(c)(3). You can get a
better idea of what our program is and looks like from our website. Using the park as our 'home'
has been such an amazing experience and the support from the community has been exceptional.
Our organization would not exist without the opportunity to use this space. However, the
existing municipal code is worded in a way that prevents any form of commerce from taking
place in the park open space without a permit and fees. The way the fees are currently applied is
ambiguous. We advocate that there should be a consideration made to the type of services /
commerce and the size / footprint when applying fees.
We would like to start a dialog with PPLAB so that we can capitalize on this upcoming
opportunity to affect positive change to promote more inclusion, and ultimately offer services
that have a positive community benefit. Additionally, we would like to participate in any
meetings you may have related to this topic.
Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions.
All the best,
Allison
Allison Johanson
Sloyd Experience, Co-founder
5
