Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
26 July 2021
Bauer replied that it was not a requirement for the contractor or the homeowner but staff could
update the Commission on completed assessments, even if the homeowner did not pursue
landmarking.
Dunlap suggested that there should be a publicly accessible archive for the assessments similar
to the historic background documents from the Museum.
Dunlap moved and Keller seconded a motion to find probable cause. Motion passed
unanimously by voice vote.
ITEMS FROM STAFF
Bauer shared that a subcommittee had approved siding work at 1213 Jefferson. She shared
that the next plaque ceremony would be July 29th at 6:30 PM and there would be a regular
meeting on August 16th. She confirmed that everyone could be at the ceremony but could not
discuss commission business.
Historic Structure Assessment Presentation — 834 Lincoln
Bauer stated that the assessment had been approved in January 2021 and was conducted by
DAJ Design and Glenn Frank. She noted that it had been relocated to Louisville from its original
location in the Cherry Creek area of Denver. She presented the ages of the different parts of the
floor plan and shared that some of the critical work proposed for the property by the assessment
included removing non -historic elements and rehabilitating historic ones on the trim and the
front porch. The assessment also recommended having a structural engineer evaluate the
porch.
Historic Structure Assessment Presentation — 501 Jefferson
Bauer stated that the assessment was approved in February 2021 and was conducted by Peter
Stewart and JVA Consulting Engineers. She shared the floor plan and the chronology of the
additions. The highest priority work including reinforcing the roof rafters.
Klemme stated that she appreciated the presentations. Over time, the commissioners could see
the patterns of what kinds of problems the assessments were finding.
Haley stated that she liked having the full report and the short presentations.
Dunlap asked if the stucco was 50 years old and asked if there were any tests to determine the
age of the stucco.
Bauer replied that its age might be in the larger report and there were some sources that might
help pinpoint the timing. The Commission could consider the stucco to be historic or they could
argue that it was covering up the material from the target era.
Haley asked if DAJ Design would continue to do assessment reports.
Bauer said she was not sure but her guess was that those would not continue and staff could
undertake these updates.
3
