Open Space Advisory Board <br />Information Item 6: Staff Updates Continued <br />April 14, 2021 <br />Page 2of2 <br />Trails & Maintenance: <br />1. Please see Allan Gill s updates following staff updates. Allan s updates pertain to the <br />Davidson Mesa Trail Resurfacing Project and the Retaining Wall Project. <br />2. Staff is reviewing future memorial bench opportunities related to Primary to Primary trail <br />connection plaza areas per the Wayfinding Plan. <br />3. Memorial bench location review and proposals from OSAB has an October 6, 2021 <br />deadline. <br />4. Final mowing for the season is on track to be completed by mid -October, and Staff will <br />continue to monitor through the fall. <br />5. Trail repairs at Coyote Run and Hecla are complete. <br />Natural Resources: <br />1. The Open Space weed control contractor has completed herbicide treatments for cheat <br />grass and fall spraying for the year. <br />2. The Russian Olive Tree Removal RFP has been posted on the City website and bids are <br />due by October 28th. This contract involves the removal of large Russian olives trees on <br />select Open Space properties and includes a trail safety plan. <br />3. Boy Scout Aidan Tepe installed two bat houses on Coyote Run in September to earn his <br />Eagle badge. We look forward to seeing how the bats respond to these new habitat <br />features next spring. <br />Education/Volunteer: <br />1. Volunteer Events Past: <br />a. Tuesday, September 71h from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, Pulling for Louisville. Davidson Mesa <br />Open Space, GHX entrance. 10 participants. <br />2. Education Events Past: <br />a. Saturday, September 18th from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, Prehistoric Animal Walk. Davidson <br />Mesa Open Space. 14 participants. <br />b. Saturday, October 3rd Staff gave a presentation on the "Waterbirds of Hecla Lake" at <br />the Balfour retirement community. 16 people attended the talk and 6 attended the <br />follow up field trip to the lake. <br />3.
