Colt L6 Louisville
PARKS, RECREATION & OPEN SPACE
Memorandum
To: Open Space Advisory Board
From: Catherine Jepson, Open Space Specialist
Date: October 13th, 2021
Re: Dutch Creek Interpretive Sign
Purpose:
The purpose of this action item is to review, discuss, and give recommendations regarding the draft
interpretive education sign for Dutch Creek Open Space.
Background:
The Open Space Division is working with a contractor to finalize the text, artwork, and layout for a
new interpretive sign for Dutch Creek which would be fabricated and installed in 2022. The sign topic
is riparian zones and covers the benefits of riparian areas, potential wildlife, and the 2013 flood.
Interpretive signs inform and educate residents and visitors about the diversity and importance of
Open Space lands and also helps promote environmental stewardship and appreciation. Currently
there are interpretive signs on the Davidson Mesa and Harper Lake kiosks, the bird blind on Hecla
Lake, and on a pedestal at Hillside Open Space. The proposed sign for Dutch Creek will follow the
same format as existing interpretive signage and be installed on a pedestal just north of the bridge on
the property and close to Coal Creek.
Next Steps:
Staff will consider OSAB recommendations for the final edits for this sign which will be fabricated in
2022.
Documents Attached:
1) Dutch Creek Riparian Interpretive Sign -draft
2) Hecla Lake Wildlife Interpretive Sign -final
13
