Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
September 27, 2021
Staff Updates
Recreation Center and Senior Services Update
Nathan shared information from Kathy Martin.
• The Rec Center is experiencing low attendance, which is linked to the current
indoor mask mandate. Kathy makes decisions to keep expenses down, such
as having only one person at the front desk during slow times. She will also
consider changing hours of operation if needed. Kathy will provide 3rd Quarter
information at the October RAB meeting. Board members expressed the hope
that cold weather will improve attendance and encouraged the Rec Center
management to avoid cutting hours, if possible.
• Outdoor classes and youth sports are doing well. Staff is considering adding
additional Zoom classes.
• The preschool is up and running.
• Boulder County has a Vaccine Verification Program, which outlines the
requirements for an event or class in which participants may remove masks.
Kathy is checking out the requirements for this program, which might create
optional exercise classes for vaccinated people. This program could also be
available for some of the activities in the Senior Center, such as bridge games.
Nathan reported that Memory Square Pool would be closed on Wednesday,
September 28. The Aquatic Supervisor has resigned, and this position has been
posted.
Ginger Cross reported that Customer Appreciation Week is in full swing.
• Daily communications showcase special activities and Guest Spotlights. Board
members expressed appreciation for the project.
• A Senior Services Wellness and Resource Fair is scheduled for October 1.
Ginger reported that the Splash Party on September 17 was very successful, with over
100 middle -school kids in attendance. Another Splash Party is scheduled for October
8. Nathan said that the new zipline in the program pool should be installed by that
date.
Outdoor Rec Amenities Update
Nathan asked for confirmation that the Board would like the contracted company to
paint pickleball lines on basketball courts in several parks. Although this plan is not
ideal, and the ultimate goal is to build pickleball courts for the community, RAB
members believe that this is a step we can take now to provide additional pickleball
courts for the community. If there is doubt about the possible use of the courts, one
board member suggested painting lines at only one of the parks to see whether or not
the court is used.
3
