Planning Commission
Meeting Minutes
October 14, 2021
940 Main PUD: A request for approval of a Planned Unit Development to allow
construction of an accessory structure at the rear of the property (Resolution No. 16,
Series 2021).
• Applicant: Susan Ruh, Studio Shed
• Case Planner: Kim Bauer, Historic Preservation Planner
All public notice was met.
Howe disclosed that a member of the applicant team was one of his clients, but he had
no financial connections to the project and his relationship with one of the applicants
would not affect his judgement.
Bauer described the proposed accessory structure and noted that it would only require
electrification at the site and would be detached from the other structures on the
property. She described the context of the property and Main Street and stated that staff
found that it complied with relevant regulations and guidelines.
Diehl asked if they would have the right to operate a second business out of the shed.
Bauer stated that it could only be used to support the present business in the main
structure.
Howe asked if there was adequate drainage with the pitch of the roof.
Bauer stated that staff felt there was and added that other departments had no
comments on the roof pitch.
Shey Ellerbruch, with Studio Shed at 1500 Cherry Street Suite S, shared drawings of
the shed and discussed the design and color.
Diehl stated that the shed could provide an opportunity for a mural or some type of
public art.
Hoefner stated that he thought it was a good project and that accessory structures were
exciting things and he hoped to see more of them in the future.
Commissioners Diehl, Williams, Moline agreed with Commissioner Hoefner.
Howe added that they wanted to make sure to be consistent with City guidelines as
these would probably become popular in the future.
Brauneis appreciated that a little building like this allowed a historic building to remain
intact.
Williams made a motion to approve Resolution 16, Series 2021. Diehl seconded. Motion
passed unanimously by roll call vote.
NEW BUSINESS — DISCUSSION
Review of recommended inclusions for the 2022 City Council Work Plan
9
