L
Cityof 2022 Recreation Advisory Board
Louisville Supplemental Questions
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
Applicant Name: Jeanie Balch
The Recreation Advisory Board promotes recreation and golf in Louisville, advises the City
Council in determining the community's needs and desires for recreation and golf facilities.
The Board meets the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 pm.
Terms are three years.
You must be a resident of Louisville to serve.
I. Briefly explain your interest on serving on the Recreation Advisory Board.
My main interest for serving on the Recreation Advisory Board is to help Louisville research, develop and
promote Pickleball courts for our community. Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports nationally and
gaining even more attention through exposure on national television and social media. It is truly a
multi -generational sport and has a low barrier to participation and enjoyment. Currently at the drop in
Pickleball at the Rec Center newcomers are welcomed and taught the basics and integrated into the play.
It is a great way to meet people and build a community, however due to lack of designated courts many
Louisville residents have to go to our neighboring cities to play. I would be interested in researching what
the options for Pickleball play are in our surrounding communities and how Louisville could use that
information to build a vibrant community within our town. Currently the only Pickleball play in Louisville is
on shared spaces with other sports.
2. What is your vision for the City's Recreation/Senior Services programs and the Coal Creek Golf
Course?
I would like to see Louisville have dedicated Pickleball courts and be in a position to host
small tournaments. These can bring in Pickleball players from around the state and also
promote other interests in Louisville. There is a lot of interest in combining the social
aspects of the game with food and other marketing tie ins. Many of the top Pickleball
pros look for opportunities to teach or hold workshops and this could be an attraction as
well. Let's put Louisville on the Pickleball map!
3. What is your favorite thing about the Recreation Center or Coal Creek Golf Course? Why?
Currently I love the drop in Pickleball on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. During the first
year of Covid my husband and I enjoyed playing Pickleball on the lighted Tennis courts
whenever it wasn't too cold or windy. It's great to have the physical and mental exercise
that comes with this sport. My family really enjoys the new setup of the cardio and
circuit area at the Rec Center since it has such a welcoming, low pressure vibe.
19
