C tyof <br />Louisville <br />COLORADO -SINCE 1878 <br />Applicant Name: John Carlson <br />2022 Licensing Authority <br />Supplemental Questions <br />The Local Licensing Authority (LLA) is a quasi-judicial board that reviews applications for <br />liquor licenses and retail and medical marijuana licenses and also reviews alleged violations of <br />local liquor and marijuana codes. <br />• The LLA meets the fourth Monday of each month at 6:15 pm. <br />Terms are four years. <br />You must be a resident of Louisville to serve. <br />I. Briefly explain your interest on serving on the Licensing Authority. <br />I have served on the LLA since approximately 2005. 1 enjoy giving back to my community. <br />I feel I have gained institutional knowlege that helps the LLA function effectively. I have <br />served as Chair several time and enjoy helping new board members learn the complixities <br />of the position. <br />2. What is your knowledge of the licensing process for liquor and marijuana? <br />I am an attorney and practice in this area. In addition, when I worked for the City & County <br />of Denver I conducted performance audits of the Denver LLA. I ran a trade association for <br />craft brewers for twenty years and keep aware of regulatory changes at the state and local <br />level. I feel my experience is helpful to the LLA. <br />3. How would you strike a balance between enforcement and education for servers & licensees? <br />I feel we do a good job in Louisville of balancing business needs with practical <br />compliance. We have a great working relationship with the Police Department and our <br />license holders. In addition, we do a nice job with special events. Many of these events <br />add to the fabric of our community and make it a nice place to work and live. <br />
