City Council
Meeting Minutes
September 28, 2021
Councilmember Brown stated he wants to make sure that dedicated funding is getting
spent as has been directed. He would like regular progress reports on how this is being
addressed.
Councilmember Dickinson noted hiring staff in this market is very difficult and that may
impact what this costs.
The consensus was to add a place holder in the budget for a parks, open space, and
streetscapes booster program.
Mayor Stolzmann noted Council will still want to see a plan for spending and addressing
issues. The place holder should not be considered a minimum or maximum amount to
spend, staff should create a plan with what is needed to make it work.
Interim City Manager Davis stated staff will come back with more detailed information and
a plan on how to address this.
Mayor Stolzmann stated she is seeing many other agencies losing staff and not being
able to replace them in this labor market. She asked if the Council was interested in
including money in the budget for a bonus for those employees who had to come in
during the lockdown. She also suggested adding funds for employee retention in the
budget.
Members liked the idea and asked staff to come back with a funding plan for
consideration.
MUSEUM EXPANSION DESIGN FUNDING
Bridget Bacon, Museum Services Supervisor, gave the history of this project to possibly
expand the museum. She noted a recommendation from 2004 from a museum
assessment for a new facility to be added to the site for a collections center. A conceptual
design was done in 2017 including cost estimates. The plan includes a community
meeting space, storage for collections, exhibit space, and work space.
Jennifer Henderson, Louisville History Foundation, noted the museum is continually
ranked very high in citizen surveys. Studies show museums contribute greatly to
economic vitality and it is a gathering place for everybody. She reviewed the funds
already spent on this project both from the City and the History Foundation.
Sharon Nemechek, Library and Museum Services director, noted staff is requesting
funding be included in the 2022 budget for schematic designs to be completed so we
have a better understanding of the costs to do the expansion.
Public Comments
