LL
1
oi0sf viIl
Memorandum
To: Historical Commission
From: Bridget Bacon, Museum Services Supervisor
Date: Nov. 9, 2021
Re: Museum Services Supervisor's Report
The Museum recently mailed out the Fall 2021 issue of the Louisville Historian, along
with the membership renewal reminder postcards to those who are due to renew.
The "Stories in the Dark" program with the Boulder Valley Spellbinders telling true
suspenseful stories from Louisville history was a wonderful way to inaugurate the
new outdoor Museum Courtyard space. It drew 37 attendees. We appreciated the
dedication of the Spellbinders storytellers and their willingness to develop Louisville
stories, as well as their expertise in storytelling.
The walking tours on "Louisville During the Great War" on Nov. 7 and 14 have been a
great opportunity for collaboration with another City department. The tours are a
joint project of the City's Museum division and Open Space division.
For Indigenous People's Day, the Museum staff installed a new exhibit on
"Indigenous Roots" in the front window, hosted a program on the connection of
Boulder's Fort Chambers to the Sand Creek Massacre, distributed "take & make" kits
to learn about the Arapaho language and uses for mint leaves, and posted a
statement on Instagram on Indigenous People's Day. The City of Louisville shared the
Museum's post on its Facebook page and it became one of the City's most successful
Facebook posts to date, with a high level of engagements, likes, comments, and
shares.
The Museum is upgrading to a new version of PastPerfect, which is its cataloging
software that is also used for putting historic photos online for the public to access.
The new version is web -based and will provide flexibility and timesaving.
If you drive or walk by the Museum, you'll notice that the painting of the buildings is
well underway. Also, two of the buildings (the Tomeo House and the Jordinelli
House) were both due for new HVAC systems and these were recently installed and
paid for as part of the regular budget process.
