Unfortunately, the 2000 architectural survey record for 1037 Walnut at the end of this report
reported only the County website date of 1920, which was an adjusted date, instead of the year
of construction of 1910 given on both the 1948 and 1977 Assessor cards.
However, using the 1910 date of construction would appear to also not be accurate, since the
house appears on the 1909 Drumm's Wall Map. For this reason, the date of construction is
assumed to be "circa 1909."
Louie Salvi Ownership, 1919-1927
In 1919, Louie Salvi purchased 1037 Walnut from Felix Tesone. He had been born in Italy in
about 1860. The 1920 census places him as living at 1037 Walnut and states that he came to
the U.S. in 1900. In 1920, he was 60 years old, single, and working as a coal miner.
Salvi passed away by 1927, when his estate sold the property.
Ferrari Family Ownership, 1927-1946
In 1927, Luigia Airoldi Ferrari (1876-1928) purchased 1037 Walnut. She and her husband,
Antonio Ferrari, had married in their home country of Italy and then came to the U.S. and to
Louisville in about 1895. By the time when she purchased 1037 Walnut in 1927, she was
widowed, and their five children were all adults.
The 1928 Louisville directory gives a Jefferson Ave. address for her home, suggesting that she
did not live at 1037 Walnut. Luigia Ferrari died in 1928, the year after she purchased the
property. Her children inherited 1037 Walnut and owned it until 1946. It is believed to have
been a rental after her death. In 1946, her sons Enrico Ferrari and Fred Ferrari sold it.
This image from Boulder's Carnegie Library for Local History was cropped from a larger aerial
photo of Louisville taken in the early 1940s. The arrow points to 1037 Walnut.
3
