Revitalization Commission
Minutes
February 9, 2022
those two structures. Ten to fifteen buildings had physical/landscaping damage
and/or some smoke damage. There have been conversations about how to
support businesses, but the economic impact of the fire is not yet known. The
City's resources are focused on the residential impact, which was much more
severe.
Councilmember Leh asked what percentage of businesses have insurance for
business interruption. Director Pierce said the majority have insurance, a small
number do not. Like residential, there are conditions and caps. Some
businesses may be reluctant to tap into insurance.
Commissioner Williams asked if the LRC can reimburse businesses who
offered support via food, clothing as related to goals on blight prevention.
Director Pierce said it can only be done for businesses in Hwy 42 area, and this
may not be a sustainable approach since the City cannot aid the businesses
that likely had more impacts in the McCaslin Boulevard Corridor. Chair Adler
noted that the approach to help and support is complex.
Commissioner Smith asked as Xcel is evaluating the fire and lessons learned.
He suggested that the LRC could participate in identified infrastructure
investments and how to make our systems more robust.
Councilmember Leh appreciates Commissioner Williams comments and desire
to help. There will be things we will see that make better use of LRC resources
that will have lasting impacts. Commissioner Williams asked if the emergency
status can trigger some legal barriers to be navigated more easily. Attorney
Cotton -Baez said for the City yes, but for the LRC there is not such an
established authority.
Business Matters of Commission:
2022 Open Government and Ethics Pamphlet
The Charter has a requirement that this pamphlet be included in the LRC
packet annually. Director Pierce encouraged Commissioners to read it. Attorney
Cotton -Baez said there will also be an ethics training scheduled in March or
April for Commissioners to attend.
• Approve 2022 Posting Locations for Public Meetings
There is an annual requirement to approve consistent posting locations.
Councilmember Leh made a motion to approve the posting locations as: City
Agenda Packet P. 5
