Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
May 18, 2009

Commission would do everything they could do to provide assistance. He stated
that Muckle could meet to discuss the interiors of the structure and Lewis could
meet to provide design assistance.

Stewart stated that trying to preserve a structure while providing energy saving
elements can be a tricky prospect, but Andy Johnson is a good resource for the
project.

Koertje added that he was glad that Lawrence was considering her options
before she demolished the structure.

Johnson asked if the Commission if a structure could still be considered for
preservation or landmark status if it were slightly moved on the property?

Muckle and Lewis stated that would not be a problem. You could move the
structure and replace it with a better foundation.

Koertje added that there is now a historic preservation fund that is available and
Lawrence's project could be the pilot project.

Discussion/Direction/Action - Programming of Historic Preservation Fund

Muth reminded the Commission that the Historic Preservation Fund resolution
goes before City Council on June 2,2009.

The Commission asked if there was any money banked in the fund to date. Muth
answered that there is currently approximately $20,000 in the preservation fund
bank.

Whiteman recognized Paul Wood, Planning Director, in the audience and asked
if he had any comment for the preservation fund.

Wood answered that the Planning Department is here to support the Commission
in any way possible. Wood then asked if the City Council was going to discuss
the Downtown Design Handbook (design standards) at the June 2,2009
meeting.

Muth answered that it was on the agenda for direction only.

Whiteman stated that the design guidelines should be revised because as the
fund begins to accrue, property owners will seek assistance and we should make
language in the design standards to provide for a design review committee (on
HPC).

Wood stated that the Planning Commission is interested in modifying the design
standards as well.
