L'6
cityo
Louisville
PARK$ RECREATION &OPEN SPACE
Memorandum
To: Open Space Advisory Board
From: Open Space Division
Date: March 9, 2022
Re: Information Item: 5: Staff Updates
General:
1. Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Director- The application window for the Director position
closes on March 14. For additional details, please follow this link:
https://www.louisvilleco.gov/Home/Components/News/News/5709/17
2. Ranger Staffing- The application window for the Ranger Naturalist position closed on March 1.
Staff is evaluating and selecting candidates to move forward in the hiring process.
3. Seasonal Staffing- The division has hired one seasonal, and staff is currently interviewing for the
second position.
Marshall Fire Updates Pertaining to Open Space:
1. FEMA "Damage Inventory' document for Parks and Open Space has been revised to meet FEMA
protocols and direction.
2. The Fence Contract for rebuilding fire -damaged fencing on open space and park public land is
being finalized and reviewed to ensure compliance with FEMA protocol. The contract is tentatively
planned to be bid out this month. Staff will then review contractor submittals and award the
contract.
3. Erosion Control Plan- Staff has prepared a post -fire erosion control plan for affected properties
vulnerable to wind and water erosion. Repeated late winter snowfall has improved soil moisture
and reduced erosion risk, but staff remains vigilant by monitoring affected properties and
monitoring the weather forecast for potentially erosive events.
4. Erosion Control Volunteers- Tentatively, staff are preparing to recruit a volunteer "reserve,"
prepared for rapid deployment of erosion control measures, if deemed necessary by staff.
5. Debris Removal Volunteers- Open Space staff is planning a volunteer clean-up on Davidson Mesa
when weather permits. The volunteers will be walking in a grid pattern to pick up debris from the
Marshall Fire and also raking gravel back onto the trail where it was blown off during the strong
winds.
6. Davidson Mesa Trails- Staff met with Meridiam Partners on February 16 to assess the project site.
The project is set to begin once the weather and site conditions allow.
7. Hillside Retaining Walls- Green Landscape Solutions was out last week to replace erosion
blanketing and timbers damaged by the Marshall fire. They also repaired the mis-installed
timbers. Staff has reviewed and accepted the work as completed.
8. Coal Creek Trail Retaining Walls- Staff had a field meeting with a contractor at the beginning of
the month to assess the project and is awaiting a cost estimate.
10
