ITEMS ENCLOSED

COUNCIL ITEMS
COMMERCE CITY REPRESENTATIVE
AIRPORT
HAROLD KITE, MA~OR OF COMMERCE
CITY

ELLIOTT CUTLER

7/19/83

Page -2-

Councilman Fauson moved, Councilwoman Morris

seconded that the items enclosed be accepted
and brought up under the proper head of
business. Question called for. All in
favor. Motion carried unanimously.

Mayor Harold Kite, Mayor of Commerce City
introduced Elliott Cutler, of-Washington, D.C.
their Legal Counsel, stating that he would
give the presentation for Commerce City on
the Stapleton Airport expansion issue to
be voted on by D.R.C.O.G. on July 20, 1983

Mr. Cutler stated that Commerce City did not
anticipate that the vote of the Board of
Directors of DRCOG would side with the view
of Commerce City, but would rather be sub-
stantially in favor of the expansion on the
Rocky Mountain Arsenal property. Whether the required cooperation
can be achieved to build the needed new
facilities in time to meet the projected
demand and where this massive new airport
should be built. The position of Commerce
City, Brighton and Adams City is quite simple
and straightforward. They would welcome a
new airport at a suitable site in Adams County

but the Rocky Mountain Arsenal which is located en-
tirely in Adams County is the wrong place for
an airport, and Adams County, Brighton, and
Commerce City oppose any use of the Arsenal
for airport expansion. Were quite confident
that they could prevent any such use. Are
~tted to taking whatever steps to do that.
They had not gone before the DRCOG Board to
ask that it endorse the Watkins-Bennett site
or any of the other potential airport locations
which have not been studied.
