ATTORNEY TO DRAFT ORDINANCE ON DAY CARE CENTERS AND FAMILY CARE HOMES DENVER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE STAPLETON AIRPORT Bob Allen, Past Member of the Denver Chamber of Commerce oard of Directors 6/21/83 Page -3- Family care homes are. Attorney Rautenstraus suggested that council clarify the situation by up-dating our ordinance to make this clari- fication possibly allowing for day care homes in residential areas witJh up to 6 children, and also adopting or at least referencing the State standards for those homes. Discussion by council as to traffic impact on neighborhood between day care centers and family care centers in residential areas. Recommendation by Councilman Leary that a Special Review Use consideration be given with day care centers of 8-10 children within resi- dential areas. Councilwoman Morris moved, Mayor Meier seconded that City Attorney Rautenstraus draft an ordinance on Day Care Centers and Family Care Homes. Question called for. All in favor. Motion carried unanimously. Mr. Bob Allen advised that for the past 5 years he has been Chairman of the Chamber's Stapleton Airport Task Force. He then pro- vided councilmembers with a copy of their study pertinent to Airport Solutions. The first official step that will be taken as to what will happen with Stapleton International Airport and its replacement is the DRCOG Board will vote as to which site - expansion onto the Rocky Mountain Arsenal or a new site near Bennett, Colorado. On July 6th DRCOG's Program and Executive committees will meet to consider their current recommendations. Mr. Allen served on the Aviation Technical Advisory Committe~ and they concluded their deliberation and voted 13-6 in favor of phased expansion on to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. This recom- mendation will be forwarded to DRCOG on July 6th and voted on July 20th. Was requesting Council's consideration of passing a resolution favoring Stapleton's expansion onto Rocky Mountain Arsenal as supporting them in the only effective solution to Stapleton's problems. InqHired if it was possible to propose and pass a resolution to that effect. He then reviewed the changes that have been occuring at Stapleton and gave statistics - 6th busiest airport in the U.S. - 7th busiest in the world. Geographically it is located in the heart of the U.S. and has become one of the hubs for the major airlines.
