<br />City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />February 3, 2009 <br />Page 5 of 6 <br /> <br />MOTION TO APPROVE ISSUANCE OF A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP) <br />FOR BROKER SERVICES TO LEASE THE POST OFFICE SITE LOCATED AT <br />637 FRONT STREET <br /> <br />City Manager Fleming reviewed a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a real estate <br />broker to solicit services to lease the Post Office site, which was recently <br />purchased by the City. The City is considering a 3-year short term lease, but will <br />consider alternative proposals. The building will be available on April 1, 2009. <br />Two parties have expressed an interest in leasing the property and there may not <br />be a need for broker service. He stated the RFP will not be released <br />immediately, but he requested Council approval should the need arise. <br /> <br />Councilor Muckle asked what the broker's commission would be on lease. City <br />Manager Fleming explained the Post Office was paying approximately, $83,000 <br />annually. If a three-year lease was negotiated, at the same price, the broker <br />would receive 6% of the lease payments or about $15,000 for the term of the <br />lease. <br /> <br />MOTION: Councilor Dalton moved to approve the RFP for Broker Services to <br />Lease the Post Office Site, seconded by Councilor Muckle. Roll call vote was <br />taken. The motion carried by a vote of 6-0. Absent: Mayor Pro Tem Marsella. <br /> <br />City Manager Fleming noted the Post Office closed the 637 Front Street site on <br />January 31, and will take February and March to remove their property and clean <br />the facility. The City will take possession of the building on April 1. <br /> <br />CITY ATTORNEY'S REPORT <br /> <br />No report. <br /> <br />COUNCIL COMMENTS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> <br />Councilor Clabots announced the Annual Heat Relief Dinner is Thursday, <br />February 19 at the Recreation Center and all proceeds go to seniors who need <br />help paying their utility bills. <br /> <br />Councilor Sackett suggested the City explore purchasing a statue of John Breaux <br />on a bicycle as an appropriate tribute. <br />
