10/19/82 Page -19- yor Meier Stated the possible reason this was not brought before Council was because it was handled under a different item. He further explained the Cancer Fund run was not a dona- tion; but rather the sponsoring of a team i.e. a basebell team or other team functions that the City has, and done thru the Parks & Recreation Dept. Councilman Fauson Traffic Problem at Elementary School Commented there seems to be a problem at Pine and Garfield Sts.;since we had a correction on some traffic problems with the Elementary School signing at Lincoln and Pine Sts. He felt the signing should have been at Pine and Garfield Sts. Since the School has made an extension on Garfield St, the school buses are using this street for entrance to the school and there is a loop there made by the School District. The concern now is the heavy traffic created by the cars going into that loop dropping off the children and coming off on McKinley. Also people in the area are concerned about the young people at night going thru the loop speeding and coming out onto the other streets. Councilman Fauson requested staff to review the situation and suggested perhaps this could be closed during the evening hours. Staff agreed to review the problem. Disaster Preparedness Councilman Fauson commented in visiting with Sgt. Hamilton on the Disaster Preparedness program it came to their attention that neither the City or the Fire District has any way of notifying the residents that a problem exists. The best method would be the installation of a siren, as perhaps people would not be listening to their radios or watching television when the warnings were made. It was his suggestion that the Fire District and council work together to get the necessary warning system installed. Halloween Councilman Fauson commented each year there is a Halloween Party held at 701 Grant St. and he requested the Police Dept. monitor this for the City again.
