All in
favor. Motion carried unanimously.

Councilman Leary reported that he had this
idea proposed to him by one of the people
in his ward and he had discussed it with
Carolyn Markham of the Historical Commission.
Essentially the suggestion was that there
may be individuals who have contributed to the
City of Louisville in various ways and have
never received recognition, possibly because
they were never elected as public officials
and did their work in the spirit of volun-
teerism. Carolyn Markham brought the idea
to the Historical Commission and they in-
dicated an interest in the project. In
addition, after listening to Betty Buffo's
presentation at the last meeting, it occured
to him there maybe a possibility that certain
events in the history of Louisville could
be commemorated. It was his suggestion to CounciT,
if they agree, that Council would ask the
Historical Commission to do some research
and make recommendation to whomever is re-
sponsible for naming the streets, and Council
would direct him to accept the recommenda-
tion of the Historical Commission.

Commented that he was in attendance at the
last Historical Commission meeting and they
had a discussion on the topic. It was also
his opinion this was a very commendable effort.
It was his suggestion that perhaps streets
named after Mayors be dispersed with events.
Mayor Meier remarked that he would appreciate
living past mayors be considered as a priority
for naming of the streets.

Councilman Leary moved, Mayor Meier seconded
that Council request the Historical Commission
to submit to City Council a list of names or
events that in their judgement have historical
significance to the City - be they volunteers,
