~ommunity Building

vall for Bids on Community
Building Restoration

Councilman Leary

Councilman Cussen

6/1/82

Page -9-

Mayor Meier suggested that Council consider
some of the remaining funds from Jacobs/Kahan
be used to renovate the Community Building.
He then asked Director Hioco to elaborate
on the meeting with the woman from the Colorado
Historical Commission as to the condition of
the building, and what the possibilities were
to restore it.
Director Hioco stated they were advised where
they could purchase the same type brick, which
must be replaced. She also advised how to
restore the building, how to remove the paint,
how to replace the mortar, and how to call
for bids. The building structurally was
sound - the foundation was replaced in 1978-79;
also the roof is in good condition; bricks
must be replaced on the north and east sides.
After the bricks are replaced a sealant was
recommended every 3 years to weatherproof it.
It is a good building to preserve and the
restoration should be done as soon as possible.

Mayor Meier again stressed the importance of
restoring the building, due to its constant
use and historical value.

Mayor Meier moved, Councilman Leary seconded
that Director Hioco call for bids for restor-
ation of the Community Building.

Shared the concern that the building should
be restored; however he did not support using
the Open Space funds for this project. It was his feeling that open
space was an equal priority for long range
plans for the City.
Administrator Wurl suggested that Director
Hiocoget an estimate and then staff will re-
view the budget to see if there are other
possibilities of funding the restoration.

Commented he too agreed that the building
should be restored as it is of historic
significance and value to the City, but felt
it should be taken from the budget. He
suggested that the Jacobs/Kahan funds be
further discussed by Council and make a definite
decision where it should be spent. Cussen
too was in support of purchasing additional
open space land and felt that some of these
