Amendment to Ordinance #760

..r'yor Meier

Councilman Cussen

Councilman Leary

5/4/82

Page .,.14-

Leary inquired when are the water meters
read?
Chief Accountant Caranci advised one cycle
is read on the 9th and the second on the
21st of each month, The 9th cycle is larger
than the 21st and she was suggesting meters
be read every Friday of the month - eventually
having 4 cycles.
Leary then inquired
Saturday or Sunday
Caranci's reply was
finishing up on the

if the 9th fell on a
when are the meters read?
beginning on the 7th and
10th.

Councilman Leary wished to amend the Ordin -
ance to change the minimum rate from 10,000
to 12,000 gallons for $8.00. He felt this
would provide more water when it is needed
in the summer months.
Councilman Leary moved that Ordinance #760
Water and Wastewater Rates be amended $8.00
for 0-12,000 gallons.

Inquried of Chief Accountant Caranci how this
would effect rate structure she had computed
for the operating and maintenance operations.
Her reply was she would have to refigure it.
Leary stated it would be $1.30 less a month
for each user - 2,000 users would be a total
of $2,600 during the high water usage months.

Commented he had some concerns with Council-
man Leary's amendment. He felt that the
present ;:-ate system was not covering the costs
of operation and maintenance and the resi-
dents should be informed accordingly. He
further stated he knew it was unpopular to
increase water and sewer rates, but the
residents should be informed with the problems
the City is facing regarding the deficits
in these funds. It was also his feeling that
as counc:i.lmembers they need to prudently look
at how they are running the government. It
was his opinion the problem should be dealt
with up-front and get it solved.

Commented he didn't feel the problem was
being misleading and the other points are
all correct, that it will have to come from
something else which means less for some
