Historic Preservation Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />April 11, 2022 <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />Staff also recommends the HPC approve a grant not to exceed $4,000 to reimburse the <br />costs of a historic structure assessment. <br />Commissioner Questions of Staff: <br />None is heard. <br />Applicant Presentation: <br />Gordon Madonna, 733 Garfield Ave <br />Madonna says that his family purchases the property in 1919. Their desire is to return <br />the house as close to the original state as possible. He mentions he brought photos to <br />show the minor modifications to the property. <br />He ends his presentation showing the commissioners historic photos of the property. <br />Commissioner Questions of Applicant: <br />Haley asks about the footprint of the house, such as if it has had any additions. <br />Madonna says a patio on the west side is the only addition to the house. <br />Public Comment: <br />None is heard. <br />Discussion by Commissioners. - <br />Burg says it is clear there is social and cultural significance for this property. She thinks <br />all the criteria is met. <br />Dunlap says he appreciates that the owners want to keep the house in its original form <br />such as the siding. <br />Burg says it is nice to see the original ranch style of the home will be preserved. <br />Haley says this style is landmarkable and significant to Louisville. She wants to set the <br />precedent that this type of home can be landmarked. She believes it meets all the <br />necessary criteria. <br />Keller says he agrees with the other commissioners and would love to see the <br />Madonna family have a landmarked house in Louisville, given their family ties to the <br />city. <br />Burg moves and Dunlap seconds a motion to approve the request to find probable <br />cause for a landmark designation to allow for funding of a historic structure assessment <br />for 929 Parkview Street. Motion passes unanimously by a roll call vote. <br />STAFF UPDATES <br />Updates Memo <br />Bauer mentions that there are currently no alteration certificate reviews. She says that <br />1009 Grant Ave had a subcommittee review for a non -historic carport. <br />Landmark Plaque Ceremony Planning <br />Bauer informs the commissioners that May 7 is the "Lenses on Louisville," which is a <br />museum event from 9AM-11AM. She also mentions that the next HPC meeting will be <br />May 16 at 6:30PM. <br />q <br />
