Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
April 25, 2022
The Marshall Fire expenses are listed as a lump sum on a separate line.
Some may be paid by insurance; some may be paid by FEMA.
The restaurant information didn't get posted for some reason. The
restaurant has been open and the beverage cart has been out a number
of times.
Kathy Martin provided information about the Q1 Rec Center Dashboard. The
dashboard compared expenses and revenue to those in 2019, the year
before COVID.
• 2022 numbers do not compare well with 2019, when the Rec Center was
fully staffed and programmed. The Rec Center is still recovering from
COVID, the impact of the Marshall Fire, and staffing challenges.
• Program revenue is doing well, even though programs are limited due to
staffing issues.
• Membership revenue has been slow to improve.
• Group fitness classes are coming back strong. March attendance was the
best since the beginning of COVID.
• Birthday parties are popular.
• Marshall Fire victims receive free passes. A grant for
outdoor furniture has been approved, but it will take a couple of years for
the furniture to actually arrive.
Kathy reported that workers are getting Memory Square Pool ready for the
summer. This includes some warranty work and concrete work on the splash
pad. She will present an Aquatics Amenity Proposal at our next meeting.
Board Updates
Board members asked about the CIPs and the budget process. Kathy informed
us that the City is looking at altering the the budget timeline. The changes are
related to hiring problems, funding issues, and supply chain issues. Deb Fahey
added that the City recently underwent a pay and merit study. City officials want
to bring pay and benefits up to the level of surrounding communities.
Voting signage could be improved.
