Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
April 25, 2022
Staffing Update
David Dean reported that he has five seasonal candidates and has hired one
full-time golf maintenance specialist. This fills about 50% of the positions
available. The golf course now has water rights from Coal Creek, which
supplies 288,000 gallons a day. He reported completion of a concrete project
and two irrigation projects. Staff has aerated the greens and will soon fertilize
the grass.
Kathy reported that hiring continues to be difficult. Summer Day Camp has
been reduced to 48 spots. Weekday tennis lessons in April and May have
been canceled. There are vacancies for Peewee soccer coaches and sports
referees. One bright spot has been the lifeguard staff. Lifeguard certification
programs have been running often. Louisville is one of the only places in the
state with enough lifeguards to open both the outdoor and indoor pools this
summer. Staffing is very low all over the area.
David Baril reported that he has a good number of high school workers for the
weekends, and the college -aged students will be available in a couple of
weeks.
Michele Van Pelt represented our Board during the interviews for the Parks
and Recreation Director. A decision and job offer should be forthcoming.
The Board discussed possible ideas to help with the shortage of seasonal
staff.
• Kathy reported that the Ready to Work Program has been successfully
employed for various jobs.
• The City is converting some positions from seasonal to full-time.
• A collaboration with Imagine could be another possibility.
• Volunteers could help in different capacities, such as gardening,
painting, and clean-up. Ginger reported that a volunteer list is already
being compiled. A spring clean-up event is being planned.
• Volunteers could adopt areas to maintain. Deb Fahey informed us that
the City is in the process of determining ownership of different parcels
of land, to determine what is ditch property, City property, HOA
property, or private property. The City is coordinating this information
with the fire department.
Q1 Golf and Rec Dashboards
David Baril pointed out highlights from the Q1 Dashboard.
• There were only 20 playable days out of 45. However, revenue was high
on those days when the course was open.
• Annual season pass sales and lesson revenue is way up.
