Emmett Walsh, 826 St. Andrews Lane: Participated in the meeting as a final requirement for US
Government class. Asked if we have any relevant or recent facts pertaining to Marshall Fires.
Emmett also asked "What was impact on community?"
o Ember response: each department collecting information relevant to their departments.
o Ember explained that from an emotional standpoint many homes were lost and the
community is doing a lot of healing and work through process to rebuild. On open space
staff is working to figure out how to restore and rebuild lands to make them open and
usable to the public.
- Mike Schantz, 623 W. Hickory Street: Asked if we have actively discussed additional prescribed
burn strategies for open space properties?
o Ember: No recent public discussion about that. There is a plan to include it into work
with the consultant as mitigation opportunity for consideration. Currently there are no
plans to engage in prescribed burns as a city this year.
Board Questions and Discussion
David asked if staff wants OSAB input on scope for fire mitigation consultant. Ember said possibly from
the Marshall Fire Tiger Team discussion. If there is time she will bring more information back to OSAB.
Charles asked about Davidson Mesa trail rebuild. Ember explained it is moving forward. The trail
contractor currently working on first segment (US36 to center; west side of property). Some citizens are
not respecting the trail closure and coming very close to the equipment. If that concern cannot be
resolved, staff will consider closing down property to ensure it is safe. A staff ranger will go out to start
communicating restrictions in closure areas when equipment is operating.
Next step is to move to center trail repair. Enclave to GHX segment will still be fully open. Charles noted
he has seen bike tracks going around equipment and trail closure signs / blockade.
Staff is also looking at options to determine how to proceed with perimeter construction fencing.
11. Discussion Items for Next Meeting on June 8, 2022
o Redtail Ridge proposal
o Opportunities to Improve the Property Acquisition Ranking Process.
12.
