Facade Improvement Program Outreach Update
Director Pierce gave an update. The Commissioners have been meeting with staff and
will do in person outreach. The one pager has been translated into Spanish. Currently
in draft form and will be distributed once final.
Staff Updates
Updates from the Urban Renewal Area (URA)
• Staff has been notified that Chase Bank is closing the downtown branch
effective July 19t". Staff is seeking more information from Chase as to their
plans for the building, that they own.
• Yoga Junction, previously located at 927 Main is under new ownership and
moved to DeLo.
• Three BAPs have been approved under the administrative procedure approved
by City Council. These BAPs were under $50k. Businesses approved:
o The Fitness Team
o Scherer Violin Shop
o The Simon
The Exercise Coach and Scherer Violins will likely apply for fagade
improvements for signage. BAPs are longer time horizons, fagade
improvements are more immediate payment.
There was a discussion of the underground project in the alley behind Chase. Will
undergrounding be easier with Chase closing? Director Pierce replied that there are
still complexities with smaller business but staff will look into it. Chase is sole occupant
in their building. The challenge for Chase has been that downtown patrons use their
parking.
Is there an opportunity for LRC involvement with Lowes closing? The 550 S McCaslin
URA is limited to that specific property. The URA does not have TIF and is very limited
in what it can be used for. Lowes is not communicating with staff. Regal is active trying
to sell the property. Lowes may already have plans in place. Could be retail but could
not be residential without zoning concessions.
Business Matters of Commission:
• Discussion/Direction 950 Spruce Street/725 Front Street Public
Infrastructure
Director Pierce said this is an application for public infrastructure assistance,
similar to the application for 824 South. This property has gone thru zoning
Agenda Packet P. 4
