Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
June 27, 2022
year. Summer activities are in full swing, including junior golf, the novice
league, PGA junior camps, and Operation 36. Everything is going smoothly.
David B. said that the consultants are working on two additional clubhouse
options. They plan to be finished by July 14.
• The first option, which was presented to us at the last meeting, is a
scrape and rebuild. The additional options are a plan to remodel with a
larger footprint and a plan to remodel within the current footprint.
• RAB members agree that the consultants' presentation to the City
Council needs to be clear and concise. David B. will ask for a dress
rehearsal of the presentation. RAB members expressed concerns with
the quality of the consultants' work.
• When the options are presented to City Council, the RAB can present
recommendations regarding the proposals.
David Dean reported that the autonomous mower is out on the range, with an
option to purchase it after 30 days. He experienced one problem with it so far,
which was fixed. The mower can take hits from golf balls, survive the heat,
and supports City sustainability goals. It can be set up with solar panels. The
mower has an anti -theft GPS signal. So far, the trial is going well.
Parts of the golf course are not in great shape after a dry fall and spring.
Adequate water was only available when the irrigation ditch began running.
The course lost turf in various areas and has necrotic ring spot in places. To
improve the problem areas, David's team soaks the areas, punches holes,
and reseeds. Kathy Martin and David Dean have been talking with other City
officials about how to obtain more water when the irrigation ditch is not
running. There may be an additional source of water by the fall.
Kathy Martin reported that the Rec Center is in full summer mode.
• Staff members are already working on the fall calendar.
• The Senior Summertime Picnic hosted 160 people, with jump rope
performers for entertainment.
• The Senior Center received a $10,000 grant from Frasier Meadows
Retirement Community to be used for program assistance and
emergency assistance. The Center also received a grant from ARPA
(American Rescue Plan Act) for permanent outdoor furniture for the
Brooks Cafe.
• The Rec Center submitted an application for a state grant of $15,000
for lifeguards.
Budget Updates
Kathy Martin said that the budget starting point was the 2020 pre-COVID
budget. Most items were carried through status quo.
