City <br />Government <br />Governing Body <br />The city operates under a council - <br />administrator form of government, <br />whereby the city constitutes the city's <br />legislative and governing body. The <br />City Council consists of six members. <br />Two members are elected from each <br />of the city's three wards to serve <br />staggered four year terms of office. <br />The city council meetings, held the <br />first and third Tuesday of each <br />month, are presided over by the <br />Mayor, who is elected at large to <br />serve a four year term. The Mayor <br />has all the powers, rights, and <br />privileges of a council member. <br />Organization <br />The city council appoints the city <br />administrator to serve as the chief <br />administrative officer of the city. The <br />city administrator serves at the <br />pleasure of city council, implements <br />their policies, provides organizational <br />leadership for addressing major <br />issues, direct business and <br />administrative procedures and <br />appoints department directors. <br />The city council also appoints a city <br />attorney, a municipal judge, a <br />prosecuting attorney and several <br />separate boards and commissions to <br />administer the operations of certain <br />services. <br />Services <br />The city provides a full range of local <br />government services including police <br />protection, municipal court services, <br />street and road maintenance, public <br />improvements, planning and general <br />administration, as well as: <br />Parks & Recreation - A variety of <br />recreation opportunities are offered <br />in Louisville. The Recreation Center, <br />a 57,000 square foot multi -use center <br />features a 160 foot water slide, six <br />lane 25 meter pool, hot tub, steam <br />room and sauna, a gymnasium and <br />handball/racquetball. The Coal <br />Creek Golf Course offers everything <br />for the golf enthusiast. Trails are <br />established for biking and walking. <br />New softball fields are opened in <br />1996. In 1994 the Louisville <br />Recreation Department received the <br />Gold Medal Award, the National <br />award for Management Excellence in <br />Parks & Recreation. <br />Library - The Louisville Library has a <br />collection of over 48,000 items that <br />includes books, videotapes, audio <br />cassettes, compact discs, <br />magazines, newspapers and <br />computer software. <br />Water Treatment & Storage - <br />Average Consumption (Annual) 2.6 <br />MGD; Peak Consumption (Summer) <br />6.5 MGD; Current Treatment <br />Capacity (Net) 80 MGD; Hardness of <br />Water: 20 PPM <br />Sewer Services: The sewage facility <br />is an extended aeration/activated <br />sludge system with an existing plant <br />capacity of 2.1 MGD. Treated <br />discharge is direct flow to Coal <br />Creek. Existing flows average 12.6 <br />MGD. Ultimate planned capacity: 3.0 <br />MGD. <br />3 <br />
