5/19/81 Page - 6 - Councilman Meier US 36 INTERCHANGE Councilman Domenico Stated that he represented the City on DRCOG and was concerned with the progress being made on the US 36 interchange since the DRCOG study had been finalized. Mr. Kahan stated that he had never had the experience of offering 3~ to 4 million dollars for the something that is badly needed (improvements to US 36 interchange) and not being accepted. He further stated the professionals in Ft. Collins are very anxious to do the work, he is anxious to give the money - the State Highway Dept. is anxious to accept the money because the Legislature is criticizing them for not accepting the money. He then asked the question who controls the planning and zoning of the interchange - DRCOG, a national organization, a state organiza- tion, or do the local people control it? It was then his suggestion that a committee be formed by council and get the answer for everyone concerned. He then stated that the company had purchased for over $150,000 a piece of land in anticipation of improving- the interchange, and if they don't get an affirmative answer the land will be worth l50C. Councilman Meier expressed his appreciation to Mr. Kahan for not giving any firm dates on the concrete work. He then requested that Administrator Wurl follow up on the interchange problem. Stated it was his opinion that construction be started on the Shopping Center with or without the approval of the Governor, Highway Dept., etc. Mayor Caranci then thanked Mr. Kahan for coming to the Council meeting and hoped to see him again soon. MAYOR'S PROCLAMATION PUBLIC WORKS City Engineer Blanchard advised Council that May 17th thru May 23rd was designated Public Works Week, and read the names of all City employees working in this depart- ment.
