<br />5/19/81 <br /> <br />Page - 6 - <br /> <br />Councilman Meier <br />US 36 INTERCHANGE <br /> <br />Councilman Domenico <br /> <br />Stated that he represented the City on <br />DRCOG and was concerned with the progress <br />being made on the US 36 interchange since <br />the DRCOG study had been finalized. <br />Mr. Kahan stated that he had never had <br />the experience of offering 3~ to 4 million <br />dollars for the something that is badly <br />needed (improvements to US 36 interchange) <br />and not being accepted. He further stated <br />the professionals in Ft. Collins are very <br />anxious to do the work, he is anxious to <br />give the money - the State Highway Dept. <br />is anxious to accept the money because the <br />Legislature is criticizing them for not <br />accepting the money. He then asked the <br />question who controls the planning and <br />zoning of the interchange - DRCOG, a <br />national organization, a state organiza- <br />tion, or do the local people control it? <br />It was then his suggestion that a committee <br />be formed by council and get the answer <br />for everyone concerned. He then stated <br />that the company had purchased for over <br />$150,000 a piece of land in anticipation <br />of improving- the interchange, and if they <br />don't get an affirmative answer the land <br />will be worth l50C. <br />Councilman Meier expressed his appreciation <br />to Mr. Kahan for not giving any firm dates <br />on the concrete work. He then requested <br />that Administrator Wurl follow up on the <br />interchange problem. <br />Stated it was his opinion that construction <br />be started on the Shopping Center with or <br />without the approval of the Governor, Highway <br />Dept., etc. <br /> <br />Mayor Caranci then thanked Mr. Kahan for <br />coming to the Council meeting and hoped to <br />see him again soon. <br /> <br />MAYOR'S PROCLAMATION <br />PUBLIC WORKS <br /> <br />City Engineer Blanchard advised Council <br />that May 17th thru May 23rd was designated <br />Public Works Week, and read the names of <br />all City employees working in this depart- <br />ment. Those in attendance were: Fred Mc- <br />Nulty, Ken Pollock, Tom 1\1iller, Mark Wozny , <br />Richard Domenico, Louis Guilmont, Ron Bolan, <br />
