Work Experience
January 2010 - Present Town of Lyons, Colorado Town Administrator
Located in Boulder County, Lyons is a statutory town governed by a mayor and six trustees. The
community has a small population of 2,066 although it hosts tens of thousands of visitors in the
summer months. The town administrator oversees the day-to-day administration, operations and
budgets of all departments including finance, community development and planning, economic
development, parks and recreation, public works, community relations, personnel administration,
elections, the Lyons Urban Renewal Authority, Main Street program, as well as water, sewer, storm
water and electric enterprises. In addition, Lyons continues to recover from the devastating Front
Range Floods of 2013 and is successfully managing over 100 grants and contracts totaling nearly
$75M. Projects include planning, design, infrastructure, stream restoration, buildings, wastewater
plant, parks, mitigation, resiliency and more.
The community of Lyons has a high level of citizen (and visitor) participation, and the administrator
must respect differences and be inclusive of all while maintaining the Board's goals and mission. The
Town utilizes a sophisticated boards and commissions structure which is overseen by the town
administrator; orchestrating the groups to align with council, departmental and community goals, using
problem solving skills and staying politically neutral. The town administrator is solely responsible for
departmental results, staff performance, adherence to budget and carrying out policies. Effective
communication, collaboration, and building positive relationships are critical elements of the position.
Due to the limited number of staffs, the position requires knowledge of all aspects of local government
and independent decision making and executive management skills. All decisions are balanced with
safety, resiliency and sustainability in the forefront.
I work closely with other municipal leaders, county personnel and elected officials, as well as the
Boulder County Commissioners, Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Library District, Lyons Fire
Protection District, Watershed Districts and Chamber of Commerce, valuing each agency's
perspective and objectives to reach amicable solutions to our common interests.
