Page - 7 -

12/2/80

.

Affairs at Colorado University.

Mayor Caranci reported that on the
dedication of the City Hall, he asked
several people about the location
of the Miners Statue. 95% of them
thought it should be moved closer
to the front door. He concurred
with their opinions. He then asked
for opinions from the Council members.
Councilman Fauson remarked that the
visitors that talked with him liked
the present position. It could be
seen from the street while driving
by and several stopped to take
photos.
Councilman Cummings concurred with
the residents and Mayor Caranci.that
the statue should be moved, perhaps
set on a pedestal with lights.
Councilman DelPizzo would like it
moved to the center.
Councilman Carnival thought it should
be in the grass in front of the door.
Councilman Meier - on the grass in
between the two trees.
Councilman Domenico - more toward
the front.
It was Administrator Wurl's opinion
that if the statue was moved
something would be lost in the back-
ground because of all the glass in
the front of the building especially
after the lighting is installed, but
would comply with Council's wishes.
Mayor Caranci then asked for a motion.
Councilman Cummings moved that the
Miners Statue be moved in front of
City Hall. Seconded by Councilman
Meier. Mayor Caranci asked for re-
marks. Director Hioco stated a land-
caping plan had been developed for
the front of the building and moving
the statue would interfere with this plan,
and he requested that Council review
the plan.
Roll call vote:
Fauson - No
C1.:rrIrrnings - Yes
D€~l Pizzo- Yes
Carnival - Yes
Meier - Yes
Domenico - Yes.

MINERS STATUE
