BEITELSHEES ANNEXATION
REQUEST

LITTLE LEAGUE FEES
DISCUSSION

Council Minutes - page 2
February 19, 1980

Mr. Wurl reported that the request is for
approximately 10 acres.
Councilman DelPizzo moved that the Beitel-
shees annexation request be referred to
the Planning Commission. Seconded by Coun-
cilman Carnival. Motion carried.

Mr. Stahl stated that at the last budget
session, Council felt that the City should
structure the fees so that they were pay-
ing 50% and the participant the other 50%.
He noted that approximately $4,800 was
spent on the program last year and the
fees were raised between football and base-
ball from $15 to $20. After reviewing and
projecting the costs for 1980 it was est-
imated at approximately $6,500 to $6,800
and with the 50% fee the participant fee
was around $25. He noted that youth
activities are based on a 50% fee, adult
programs 100% fee and senior citizens pro-
grams are at little or no cost to the
participant.
Councilman Meier stated that the matter
of fees was brought to Council at budget
session and he remembers the consensus
of Council being a 50% participation fee.
Mr. Stahl stated that a survey done in
the metro area showed Louisville as the
only City that totally sponsors the pro-
grams, many cities have businesses or
nonprofit groups as sponsors.

Councilman Meier asked if any other types
of sponsoring has been looked into.

Mr. Stahl stated he met with the little
league mothers association and several
parents last year regarding sponsors for
the programs. Some ways noted were set-
ting up a nonprofit organization with vol-
unteers from the community and the City
donating a certain amount of money toward
the program, with the program being run
by the volunteers. Another was was to
have businesses sponsor the teams. They
would be responsible for uniforms and equip-
ment with the City picking up the regis-
tration fees.

Councilman Meier stated that in talking
with an old member of the little league
group, it was his feeling that some parents
would like to run the programs with the
City contributing to the funding.
