Minutes - page 12
August 21, 1979

Waschak: We are going according to order. Council decides to make a
motion they are allowed to do so. We have heard opposition, we have
heard people for it and so forth. Do you 'want to speak? Gene, would
you hold up please for one moment there is a gentlemen in the crowd
who wishes to speak and never had the opportunity to do so.

DiCarlo: He can speak under remarks.

Waschak: We will let you speak under remarks. There is a motion on
the floor Council.

Meier: Second.

Waschak: It has been moved and seconded. Are there any remarks?
Sir, would you step up to the podium and state your name and address
and who you represent.

Nicholas: My name is Ken Nicholas, I live at 400 W. S. Boulder Rd.
Louisville.
I am just a citizen of Louisville and I down tonight just to hear
what was going on and I am interested in the future of Louisville and
after the last two speakers got up maybe I should get up myself and
do alittle speaking. First off I would like to commend Council and
the Administration for the fine job that they have done. I think that
they have got alot of foresight ahead of them in going this route.
I have been a long time member, resident of the City of Boulder and
years ago way back in the early 50' s BouldE~r was starting to have
growth problems, the same as Louisville, Lafayette and all the other
small communities are now, but Boulder was not foresighted enough to
do what Louisville is doing to get their tax base in before the re-
sidential area starts to grow; and Boulder was all in those years
had an awful time struggling trying to get enough tax revenues to build
their facilities, the streets, water, sewer, parks, etc. that was
needed. And I think you people should really be commended on a fine
job here tonight. And one comment I would like to make in regards to
the fire protection that this gentlemen was talking about. I think,
if he will study the UBC, which is the Uniform Building Code, he will
find out that adequate sprinkling systems, stand pipes, and other, the
alarm systems will be put in that building so there will be no great
burden on the fire department. Secondly, the tax structure that will
go into the fire district will more then adequately pay for any stations
equipment or man power that will need to go in that area.

Wurl: What is your present job?

Nicholas: I am retired.

Wurl: From what.

Nicholas: Fire Chief of Boulder Fire Department.

Wurl: Thank you.

McKee: I restate my desires for the numbers sir.
