Minutes - page 6
August 21, 1979

Waschak: Don, I have given you four minutes, so the opposition or
whoever wishes to speak will get four minute also.
vfuat is the Councils pleasure on Resolution No. 14, Centennial Valley
Second Filing?

DiCarlo: I would like to have it read first.

Attorney Joss read Resolution No. 14 in full.

Waschak: Council, before you take any action, is there anyone in
the audience who wishes to speak in regards to Resolution No. l4?
State you name and address, you will get four minutes.

Cederberg: Mr. Mayor, my name is Jim Cederberg, I live at 1307
Franklin Ct. Louisville.
I think first of all it is inappropriate to put a time limit on my
remarks since Mr. Kahan was allowed to set the stage and wander on
as he would like, and I would appreciate if you would turn that ticking
device off and refer to your watch during my talk.

Waschak: No sir I'd like to make sure because I can use a timing device
and I will use the timing device. You get four minutes just like
Mr. Kahan did.

Cederberg: In that event Mr. Leary and Mr. Gauss have authorized me
to use their time.

Waschak: Okay then you get twelve mi.nutes.

Cederberg: I've talked to this Council a number of times before, and
during my prior talk to this Council, I have tried to present facts
as I believe them to be. It's obvious that the Council doesn't want
facts since the Council has ess~ially no more facts at this time
then the Planning Commission had before it on February 13, when the
dye was cast for this event. Rather tonight I would like to talk
about my feelings. Mr. Kahan as an outsider has expressed his feelings
I think that I as an insider, a resident of this community should be
permitted to express mine.
As I sit here tonight and watch helplessly as the final step in the
Centennial Valley Mall gets hustled through this Council, without
consideration of its consequences and without a single descending vote
from any member of this body, I have feelings of sadness and remorse
It hurts and it is going to hurt for 1many years to come and alot more
nonsense from Mr. Kahan, well now that we have kicked you let's get
up and be buddies, is not going to make it hurt any less.
I am especially sad because after your vote is cast tonight, and if,
and I believe it is a matter of when this mall fails and this project
turns and consumes this community, there won't be any joy, there will
be no winners, I can't come in and say I told you so because it won't
do any good then. There will only an unmigated catastrophe.
Now the future is a long time gentlemen, and there is no question
that your decision tonight will change the shape of this towns future.
If you are ever going to change your rninds, you have got to do it now.
If you don't, on September 16, that bl1lldozer will be fired up and it
will tear into our backyard and into the hl=arts of many of us in this
community.
