Sustainability Advisory Board Meeting Minutes
September 21, 2022
Board. Todd thanked John for his concerns, initiative, and work, noted the connection
to the meeting agenda, and asked John to remain in contact with the Board.
6. City Staff Update
Kayla noted two additions to the staff update published in the meeting packet. First,
she informed us that PACE is holding a Boulder County recycling center tour on
Friday 7 October at 9:30 am. Second, she informed us that Louisville and Lafayette
will jointly hold the Green Business awards ceremony on the morning of December 8.
Kayla highlighted the item on the staff update regarding guidelines for hybrid Board
meetings. The Board will discuss these guidelines at its October meeting. Tiffany
asked about how these guidelines mesh with the City's goals for equity, diversity, and
inclusion.
Todd inquired about revenue from the bag tax: do we have any expectations about
how much revenue the Board might help to direct towards sustainability efforts?
Kayla replied that much of the revenue has already supported a half-time
administrative position, so she is uncertain at this time. Tiffany
reported that, at least by word of mouth, McDonald's makes no effort, simply
charging for the bag with every take-out order. Kayla said that there will be internal
discussions on these points with plans for additional outreach and education. Todd
noted that Chipotle appears not to charge for bags. Megan asked about compliance
of these and other businesses with the bag tax. Kayla replied that a business is
technically considered compliant if it remits the bag tax to the City. Tiffany suggested
that we make a stronger connection between bag usage and greenhouse gas
emissions. Seth asked if we have any data on whether fewer bags are being used in
Louisville. Kayla replied that we do not know.
Todd inquired about outreach to Parco Dello Zingaro regarding the home energy
audits being offered by the City through Xcel's Partners in Energy. Kayla thought that
there is no direct outreach to Parco Dello Zingaro residents. Seth and Megan
suggested that we find a suitable contact at Parco Dello Zingaro, perhaps the
2
